JimmyChooLover Project Runway Episode 501 Designs: Terri & Wesley Jul 28, 2008 5:40 PM The designs from Project Runway just keep coming in and I don't want to miss out on anything! Working at ProjectRunway.com has been a blast this summer. :) Terri's design has been one of the few designs that has been big enough to fit on our mannequin! While Terri played it safe in her materials (plastic tablecloth and mops), her design had good detailing and construction. I especially like the back ruffle on her a-line skirt--it was perfect to add just enough volume and interest. Interestingly, the skirt didn't have any snaps or hook/eyes, so I'm not sure how the model kept it up on the runway! Terri spent most of her time braiding her halter top. The back of the top was great--sexy and well done. However, the model was sewn into the top and had to be cut out, so we had to rubberband it to our bust form. Even though Terri played it safe, her design was good; I hope we see more interesting concepts from her in the future. I was super excited to see Wesley's garment, as it was one of my favorites from the runway, but I was slightly disappointed in person. Wesley, like many other designers, used a paper tablecloth for his dress. The dress was lined with muslin and had good movement and shape, but the sewing was rushed and included many pins along the hem. My favorite part of the dress was the plastic keg cup and fly swatter flowers along the neckline. Wesley must have spent a great deal of time cutting out all the petals and creating a cohesive pattern. This dress was also very fragile and had been cut completely off of the model. While I think gloves are fabulously on trend right now, Wesley's gloves were tacky in construction. He used rubber kitchen gloves and a smashed keg cup! I thought Wesley might have potential based on this design, but he didn't make the cut this past week. Turns out, I just loved the bright, splashy color on the runway. :)
JimmyChooLover Project Runway Episode 501 Designs: Blayne & Jerell Jul 28, 2008 5:22 PM Are you a Project Runway-aholic? Then this is for you! Here's the inside scoop I'm bringing you from ProjectRunway.com about the designs. I've been able to look at them up close in person, and I want to share all the dirty details with you! Even though I'm not a fan of Blayne's "girliciousness," I've got to credit him with creativity and innovation. His design was among the most original on the runway. Blayne used charcoal grey and white shelving lining to construct a romper with a halter neckline. He also created a net pattern down the front with gauze, lime green and white shoe strings, and basketball netting. My favorite part of the design was the bold peeks of color--neon green stitching, teal and pink "no fog" mitts. This outfit was cut off the model, so I can only imagine it was interesting trying to get her dressed! In our auction, "Blaynesmom" had the highest bid--looks like his mom is starting her own collection. Do you think she'll try and wear the romper or just frame it in the living room? I made sure I got a quick peek at Jerell's design before it left our office as well. I didn't care much for it, but it was a well constructed garment. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the Koosh ball, which created a shoulder pad for the asymmetrical neckline; it was heavy! Jerell used a mesh laundry bag to construct the bodice and a lace tablecloth (surprise, what an original idea...) to create the skirt. Props to Jerell for being on trend and dip-dying his skirt in fruit punch though. Jerell used Hawaiin flower garland to create the individual flowers along the neckline. Even though I didn't find Jerell's design to be spectacular, it was mostly well constructed with princess seams and good movement & volume in the skirt. The only exception being the pins which held the back of the bodice together. If you want to see more photos, check out the blog at ProjectRunway.com :)
JimmyChooLover Project Runway Episode 501 Designs: Kelli & Leanne Jul 28, 2008 4:53 PM As I said before, I've been working behind the scenes at ProjectRunway.com and there have been some pretty exciting things going on at the office lately! This week, we have all the Project Runway designs from the first challenge at our office and I've been able to take a peek at them before we send them off to their rightful auction bid winners. It's been really cool to see the designs in person and I'm going to give you all the dirty details! The first dress I looked at was Kelli's, as she was the winner of this challenge. This dress was so fragile and I had to be extremely careful with it. I give Kelli props for innovation--using vacuum cleaner bags and bleach to create a unique fabric was original and creative. She also used notebook wire to create hook and eyes for the back of the dress. The dress was lined in muslin to give it structure and more support. Kelli's dress had a strong unified theme and design to it; however, Kelli was pressed for time and her stitching showed it. I can see why the judge's picked her as the winner--she deserved it. This dress was also the top of the auction last week, with a winning bid over $1000! I also couldn't wait to get a look at Leanne's lucious candy creation, which was one of my favorite dresses. Leanne used a bubblegum pink tablecloth to create a dress. I loved her silhouette--bubble skirt and deep v neck, but the dress was so tiny it didn't fit on our bust form. Leanne enhanced her dress with coffee filter ruffles and candy. Although the candy looked great on the runway, I think it might start rotting soon; it was also already falling off! Overall, Leanne's garment was constructed well. In the auction, the same Project Runway lover snagged both Kelli's and Leanne's dresses. Make sure you watch for my other blogs about more Project Runway designs!
